Press Release: Signature Healthcare Expands Health Services for Brockton Community during Fire Recovery

(BROCKTON, MA) – Signature Healthcare has expanded access to services, is working to deploy staff to regional health systems and opened two new Walk-In Urgent Care Centers in just three weeks to care for the community in the aftermath of the fire emergency at Brockton Hospital on February 7, 2023.

“Following their heroic efforts to safely evacuate patients without injury, our incredible staff are working swiftly to expand services and care for our community. We are immensely grateful for their respect, teamwork, and resilience as Signature Healthcare continues to recover,” said Robert Haffey, President and CEO of Signature Healthcare. “We also thank our local, state, and federal officials along with our community partners and regional healthcare organizations for their tremendous support as we stand-up additional services and work toward safely reopening the hospital.”

In recent weeks, Signature Healthcare has moved specialty care and outpatient services that were located within Brockton Hospital’s building to ambulatory locations at Liberty Street in Brockton, the Greene Cancer Center in Brockton and surrounding communities. These services include Cardiac Testing, Wound Care, Pediatrics, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Diagnostic Radiology, Mammography, Pulmonary Medicine and more. Signature Healthcare staff who were previously working at Brockton Hospital have been deployed to these ambulatory clinics to extend hours and expand access and are accepting scheduled patients. For a list of services with new locations and hours, visit MySignatureCare.org/ServiceUpdates.

While Signature Healthcare expands its outpatient services, the organization in recent weeks, has also offered to deploy clinicians and staff to other healthcare organizations to support capacities and the increase of patients at facilities from Boston to Cape Cod. Signature Healthcare’s staff has been ready for deployment to area healthcare facilities to help support the community in any way they can. Deployment began last week and will continue to ramp up over the next few weeks.

Additionally, Signature Healthcare has opened two walk-in Urgent Care Centers in just three weeks to expand access to care for patients in Brockton and the surrounding community. The Urgent Care Center at 110 Liberty Street in Brockton is open seven (7) days a week from 8am - 8pm. Across the city, Signature Healthcare’s Urgent Care Center at 650 Centre Street is open 24 hours a day, seven (7) days per week. An estimated 30-40 percent of visits to Signature Healthcare’s Emergency Department can be treated in these urgent care centers. For examples of health issues that can be addressed in urgent care, visit MySignatureCare.org/UrgentCare.

As Signature Healthcare stands up these services, the health system continues on its timeline toward a limited reopening of Brockton Hospital, estimated in three months and contingent on supply chain and access to necessary materials.

“As the only disproportionate share hospital on the South Shore, it is an urgent health equity issue to expand services and access to care throughout our system, and get Brockton Hospital back up and running,” said Dr. David Drinkwater, President of Signature Medical Group and Senior Vice President of Signature Healthcare. “We urge patients to not delay important preventive care and screenings such as colonoscopies, mammograms, cardiac testing, and behavioral health services. Our clinicians and care teams are here to continue doing everything we can to support our community.”
